In Galatians 1:11–2:10, Paul continues defending the gospel of Jesus Christ. He makes it clear that the message he preached was not invented by man, taught to him by man, or shaped by human opinion. The gospel came through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
Paul's own life is evidence of the transforming power of God's grace. Once a persecutor of the church, he became a preacher of the very gospel he once tried to destroy. Paul wasn't searching for Christ. Christ graciously called him. Salvation begins with God's grace, not man's effort.
As Paul recounts his journey to Jerusalem, we see that the gospel must never be compromised. Titus, a Gentile believer, was not required to be circumcised. The apostles recognized that the same gospel was being proclaimed to both Jews and Gentiles. There are not two ways of salvation. There is one gospel for all who believe.
The gospel is not ours to invent, improve, or change. It is God's message of salvation through Jesus Christ, entrusted to His church to faithfully proclaim.
KEY TRUTH: The gospel is not man's invention but God's revelation. It is received by grace, centered on Christ, and cannot be changed by man.
