In Ephesians 2:11–18, Paul reminds us what we were apart from Christ: separated, alienated, strangers, without hope, and without God. Sin does not simply make us broken or misguided; it separates sinners from a holy God.
But now in Christ.
Those who were once far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. We do not work our way toward God through effort, religion, self-improvement, or good works. Christ brings us near through the cross.
And Christ does more than reconcile us to God. He breaks down the hostility that divides us and makes us one people in Him, the church. What unites us in Christ is greater than what divides us in the world.
Through Christ, we now have access to the Father in one Spirit. We were outsiders, but Christ has brought us in.
BIG IDEA: Christ brings those who were far from God near through His blood and makes us one people in Him.
